This page includes a glossary of terminology used by various computer hacker subcultures. What we describe here is the language hackers use among themselves for amusement, social contact, and technical argument; although some technical content is provided for context and flavor, it is not a technical dictionary.
More than 100 new entries are included in this new edition of the hacker's own phenomenally successful lexicon, which also updates or revises 200 additional entries. Richer in history and etymology than its predecessor, it provides more information on existing entries and explains the murky origins of several key jargon terms (reversing a few long-held folk etymologies), all while maintaining a high level of hilarity.
Although you will undoubtedly discover accurate meanings for the majority of technical jargon, this is not a snoozer dictionary of technical terminology. The most enjoyable language is the slang and code used by computer jockeys. Are you unfamiliar with the infinite-monkey theorem? or the definition of the "rat dance"? It's all here. The majority of people don't read dictionaries for leisure, but this is undoubtedly an exception.
