What is the Text Encoding Initiative? How to add intelligent markup to digital resources (Lou Burnard)

The Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines are widely acknowledged in the academic research community as the de facto guidelines for the creation of digital textual resources.

The vast array of potential uses for text encoding, from conventional scholarly editions to language corpora, historical lexicons, digital archives, and beyond, makes them intimidating for beginners.

This easy-to-read book is designed to assist the novice in making their own decisions from the complete range of TEI options by drawing on several instances of TEI-encoded text from numerous academic disciplines. It provides a guided tour of the numerous areas of the TEI universe and shows how the XML technology used by the TEI may be adapted to meet the needs of a specific project in language understandable to the non-technical reader. With the assistance of Labex Hastec, this work has been completed.
