The Engineering of Reliable Embedded Systems (Michael J. Pont)

This book details a time-triggered (TT) architectures-based methodology for developing software for dependable, real-time embedded systems that have been proven in the industry.

Techniques that can be used with systems in a variety of industries, from consumer items to satellite and maritime systems, are described in "ERES (LPC1769)". The major case study covers a controller for a home washing machine. It is provided in two versions—the initial version in Chapter 3 and the final version in Chapter 15. The system was designed to adhere to IEC 60335 and IEC 60730. The goal of the book is to offer adaptable system frameworks that can be used to support a wide variety of embedded designs in diverse industry sectors.

  • A comprehensive "Model-Build-Monitor" methodology for TT systems is presented.
  • Modelling of TT systems is explored in detail, with numerous worked examples.
  • Extensive (and complete) code examples are included.
  • Run-time monitoring techniques are described in detail.
  • Links to related international safety standards and guidelines are included throughout the text.
