Mobile Networks (Jesus Ortiz)

This book is a crucial tool for professionals working in the mobile communications sector and graduate students researching advanced wireless communications since it includes a wealth of references and an insightful examination of technologies that are not covered by the standard.

Third-generation systems and voice traffic have been the key drivers of the development in the use of mobile networks. The number of mobile users worldwide will surpass the number of landline users with the current third generation and the introduction of the 4G. Along with the demands for bandwidth and service quality made by those applications, audio and video streaming have significantly increased. Applications and protocols that have been used successfully in fixed networks must be able to be used in mobile settings with the same level of quality.

The requirement for reliable handovers persisted up until the third generation of mobile networks. It is essential to transfer mobility mechanisms to upcoming generations of networks as we approach the advent of a new generation of access networks (4G) and increased connectivity between networks of various characteristics collectively referred to as hybrid (satellite, ad-hoc, sensors, wired, WIMAX, LAN, etc.). It is crucial to conduct a thorough examination of the effectiveness of current protocols and the various topologies to accommodate the new mobility conditions in order to achieve this.
