High-Performance Modelling and Simulation for Big Data Applications (Joanna Kolodziej, et al)

Modeling and Simulation, which have historically been seen as crucial pillars of the scientific method, have developed from simple discrete numerical techniques to sophisticated continuous analytical optimizations that require a lot of data.

In research and engineering, it has become crucial to have scale, resolution, and precision in order to forecast and analyze natural and complex systems. Their representation becomes more demanding for computational and data resources as their level of abstraction increases to have a better discernment of the subject at hand.

To support complex data-intensive applications in various scientific and technical disciplines, high-performance computing, on the other hand, often requires the effective use of parallel and distributed processing units together with efficient storage, communication, and visualization systems.
