Getting Started with MakerBot (Bre Pettis, et al)

With the MakerBot, the simplest and most affordable rapid prototype on the market, you can get a hands-on introduction to the world of personal fabrication. This book demonstrates how the open-source MakerBot 3D printer democratizes production and transfers massive factory power directly to your desktop.

You'll get instructions on how to design and print practically anything you can think of, including models, mechanical parts, puzzles, and toys, in addition to learning how to operate the MakerBot.

Although 3D printing is a crucial step in the development process, desktop models have so far cost more than $10,000. Not any longer, though. MakerBot, a variation on the free and open-source RepRap 3D printer, is made to be easily and affordably put together. Even the most expensive MakerBot kit is less than $1,000. Makers, hobbyists, students, artists, designers, and tinkerers can explore a new world of discovery and creativity thanks to this entertaining and educational guide, which was authored by MakerBot's developers.

  • Understand exactly what's possible in the world of personal fabrication
  • Learn how to assemble, upgrade, and tune the MakerBot 3D printer
  • Familiarize yourself with the open source design tools you need to design 3D objects
  • Get a guide to 10 interesting and useful object prototypes you can print right away
