Computer Repair with Diagnostic Flowcharts, 3rd Edition: Troubleshooting PC Hardware Problems from Boot Failure to Poor Performance (Morris Rosenthal)

A visual expert system for diagnosing component failure and locating conflicts is presented in the book Computer Repair using Diagnostic Flowcharts.

The seventeen diagnostic flowcharts that make up the bulk of this book are meant for novice technicians or intermediate to advanced hobbyists. The incorrect diagnoses and parts waste typical of the "swap 'til you drop" school of thought is reduced by using an organized approach when troubleshooting hardware.

To the extent that space permitted, we kept supporting outdated gear when we revised this book for the third edition. With many new choice points on the flowcharts and modifications to the decision trees, the text has grown by almost 50% since the last edition. In some instances, the hardware of newer PCs is significantly more straightforward than that of older PCs, therefore it wasn't necessary to eliminate troubleshooting steps to create a place for more unique, more frequent hardware difficulties.

Power Supply Failure, Video Failure, Video Performance, Motherboard, CPU, RAM Failure, Motherboard, CPU, RAM Performance, ATA Drive Failure, Hard Drive Boot and Performance, CD, DVD or Blu-ray Playback, CD or DVD Recording Problem, Modem Failure, Modem Performance, Sound Failure, Sound and Game Controller Performance, Network Hardware Failure, Peripheral Failure, SAS SCSI Failure, and Conflict Resolution are just a few of the flowcharts that are included.

The U.S. government uses this book to educate forensic technicians and as a textbook in colleges and technical schools. Additionally, buyers and technicians from all over the world appreciate using it as a reference.
