Asterisk: The Future of Telephony (Jim Van Meggelen, et al.)

Even while VoIP Internet telephony may not reach critical mass for some time, there has already been a lot of progress in that regard. Numerous businesses are drawn to VoIP not only for its potential cost benefits but also for its ability to transmit voice, image, and data traffic over a single link. Consider how much further information sharing can go with just one Internet phone conversation.

Because of this, a lot of IT managers and developers are actively searching to install private telephone switching systems based on VoIP within the company. Its efficiency for network users is so astounding it almost defies belief. If the system is created using open source software like Asterisk, it is also inexpensive. There are commercial VoIP choices available, but many of them are pricey systems using dated hardware and arduous, sophisticated software. Running on Linux, Asterisk is compatible with practically any standards-based telephony hardware. Furthermore, you can customize the programming.

Asterisk's flexibility comes at a price, however: it's not a simple system to learn, and the documentation is lacking. This issue is resolved by Asterisk: The Future of Telephony, which provides a thorough roadmap for setting up, customizing, and integrating Asterisk with current phone systems. Our manual provides you with the practical information to set up a straightforward yet comprehensive system by taking you step-by-step through a fundamental dial strategy.

It's mostly up to you what you get. Although Asterisk supports the idea of standard compliance, you have the freedom to decide how to implement your system. The book Asterisk: The Future of Telephony describes all the possibilities and demonstrates how to set up caller ID, voicemail, call waiting, phone conferencing, interactive voice response, and more. Additionally, you'll discover how Asterisk effortlessly combines phone and data traffic over various networks. Additionally, you won't require any extra hardware. Asterisk supports a variety of hardware devices for connecting with digital and analog telephone equipment.
